363 - The Remarkable Legacy of Private Conrad Lewis
353 – The Remarkable Legacy of Private Conrad Lewis is a documentary interview from Orange Planet Pictures exploring the extraordinary story behind one soldier’s final wish.

On 9 February 2011, Conrad Lewis became the 353rd British serviceman to lose his life in the war in Afghanistan.

During his deployment, Conrad had adopted a stray Afghan dog he named Pegasus, or “Peg.” The dog became a loyal companion to Conrad and his fellow soldiers — a friend, ally and constant presence during the difficult realities of military life.

Before his death, Conrad asked his father, Anthony Lewis, to ensure Pegasus would be rescued and brought to safety if anything happened to him.

After Conrad was killed, Tony Lewis began the difficult mission of honouring that promise. Repatriating a dog from Afghanistan to the United Kingdom is a complex process involving military permissions, international transport and veterinary requirements.

To help make this possible, Tony turned to Pen Farthing and the animal rescue organisation Nowzad, which specialises in rescuing and relocating animals from war zones.

In this deeply moving interview, British actor and animal welfare advocate Peter Egan speaks with Tony Lewis about grief, determination and the powerful bond between humans and animals.

Their conversation reveals the emotional journey of a father determined to fulfil his son’s final request — to save Pegasus.

The film highlights the remarkable legacy of Conrad Lewis and the enduring promise that brought a war dog safely home.
