Peter Egan Meets Cristina Lapis — Libearty Bear Sanctuary, Romania
This short documentary from Orange Planet Pictures follows British actor and animal welfare advocate Peter Egan as he visits the Libearty Bear Sanctuary in Brașov, Romania.

During the visit, Peter meets Cristina Lapis, the remarkable campaigner who established one of Europe’s largest bear rescue sanctuaries.

Founded to rescue brown bears previously kept in captivity — often in small cages outside restaurants, hotels and tourist attractions — the sanctuary now provides a safe natural environment where rescued bears can recover and live with dignity.

Set within a 69-hectare forest reserve, Libearty offers the animals space, veterinary care and protection after years of confinement and neglect.

In this intimate and thoughtful encounter, Peter explores the sanctuary, meets some of the rescued bears and learns about Cristina Lapis’s extraordinary efforts to challenge long-standing practices of captive bear keeping in Romania.

The film offers viewers a rare insight into both the sanctuary itself and the determination of the people working to improve the lives of these animals.
